Συλλογή 005: Ciudad de Mexico I 07.21.2019: Ofrenda Monumental

This is one of several posts from my recent (and first) visit to Mexico City. Actually, my first trip to Mexico ever. One day walking around Zocalo - the main square in Mexico City's historic center and the ceremonial center of the Aztec city, Tenochtitlan - I noticed a big tent with a sign "CONSULTA POPULAR". It turns out to be a competition of local artists' offerings for the Day of the Dead, called (as I understand it) Monumental Offering 2019 (Ofrenda Monumental 2019). The public went in, looked at 6 different designs and voted for the one they wished to be part of the Day of the Dead celebrations.

I was very impressed by the detail, the intense colors, and the scale. It was a bit challenging to take pictures given the crowds but a managed to capture a few good ones. In some of the figures I imagined them being in motion thus there is a slight blur in the photos while others I treated them as portraits posing.
